Installing The Toe Plate:

I made a toe plate from a piece of scrap steel in the shop. I drilled two 1/16" holes on the center line of the plate and then drilled thru these holes into the stock to serve as pilot holes for the screws later. Clearance holes were then drilled in  the plate for the screws to pass thru. Then the plate was screwed to the stock. The position of the plate was just barely hanging over the edge of the stock. With the two screws securing the plate to the stock, I inletted the plate onto the stock. I took the butt plate to the anvil and flattened the heel of the butt plate so it laid flatter to the stock. Then cut the length of the butt plate so it was just above the height of the toe plate.  I remounted the butt plate to the stock. Using a "safe" file I filed into the butt plate so the end of the toe plate will recess into the butt plate. (Do not file thru the plate.)

At this point I started filing the end of the toe plate till it fit into the recess. Then I hammered the butt plate over the end of the toe plate and filed the area flush.
