Install Buttplate:

The buttplate was inletted downward on the stock and then moved forward into the stock. I used candle soot to blacken the plate for inletting purposes.

2011-01-16 001.JPG (259740 bytes) This was a photo of the stock whilst in the process of inletting.   When finished, the whole surface was smoothed out and making contact with the plate.

I positioned the top screw hole 1/3 of the way back from the front of the plate. 2011-01-16 003.JPG (239248 bytes)

Then I used a pencil to trace the hole onto the top of the stock,

I found the center of the hole and used a punch to indent a hole 1/32" forward of the hole center. This will allow the top screw to pull the top of the plate forward into the stock. 2011-01-16 006.JPG (250037 bytes)Make sure to drill the pilot hole for the screw perpendicular to the stock. 2011-01-16 014.JPG (199312 bytes)
