Inletted Thimbles:

The front thimble was positioned 3-1/2" to 4" from the end of the muzzle and the rear thimble was where it entered the forearm.  The center thimble was positioned between the two thimbles. 

After the thimble was inletted into the stock, the stock and thimble were drilled for a 1/16" pin. Note the metal plate helped to clamp the thimble into the stock and serve as a square to align the stock "squarely with the world".
