Toe Plate Installation:(Click on photos to enlarge images.)

Make a center line down the belly of the buttstock down to the buttplate.  Locate the screw holes you will drill into the toe plate. I made three holes.  Then I drilled the three holes with a 1/16" drill bit.

Centered the toe plate on the line by aligning the three holes with the penciled center line on the stock. Remove the buttplate DSC00035sb.JPG (132090 bytes)from the stock. The toe plate was extended over the end of the stock about 1/32".  The plate will be inletted down and this will increase the exposure more. This exposure will be then dovetailed into the buttplate.DSC00039sb.JPG (178168 bytes)

Once I cut around the shaped end of the toeplate, I used a carving tool to remove the wood.

Then using knives and files I flattened the plane of the toeplate area.

When the area was flattened properly, I removed the toeplate and reinstalled the buttplate.  Using a "safe" file, I filed into the buttplate a 1/32" for the toeplate to fit into. In this photo if you look closely, you can see the fit of the toeplate into the buttplate.

DSC00040sb.JPG (130870 bytes)At this point, the end of the buttplate was peened over the top of the toeplate and tapped to close any gaps.

Then the whole area was filed flush.
