Shape Lock & Side Panels:

I drew a line roughly an 1/8" around the lock on the lock panel. At the front and the end of the panel I extended the lines to match similar pistols from this era.  Then I used a small gouge to remove wood along this line around the lock mechanism.  Using round files I remove the wood carefully to round the stock and relieve the lock panel from the stock. Once this was  done, I took a piece of paper and punched a hole in it to align the hole with the lock bolt hole in the stock.  Using a #2 pencil I laid the paper on the stock with the lock removed. Tilting the pencil so I could shade, I rubbed the pencil on the paper to indicate the shape of the panel onto the paper. The paper was then cut with a scissors so I had a pattern of the lock panel.

Taking this pattern and aligning the lock hole in the pattern on the side panel side, I aligned the pattern and then traced around the pattern onto the stock.  Now I have replicated the lock panel on the side plate side of the stock.  Following the same procedures for carving the lock panel I removed the wood around the side plate panel.

Before shaping the forearm of the pistol stock, I need to inlet the forward thimbles.
